Émile Boutmy was a French political scientist and sociologist who was a native of Paris. He studied law in Paris, and from 1867 to 1870 gave lectures on the history and culture of civilizations as it pertained to architecture at the École Spéciale d’Architecture.

Émile Boutmy scholarship was named after the founder of Sciences Po (1871). The purpose of this scholarship was to create opportunities in France for students outside from European Union. Emile Boutmy Scholarship Deadline:

Emile Boutmy Scholarship Benefits:

For undergraduate students:

The Émile Boutmy scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students arriving at Sciences Po for their first year of studies.

There are several different forms of Scholarships. Amounts are decided by admission juries:

  • A tuition grant of €14,210 per year for the three years of the undergraduate programme in addition of €5000 per year as living cost.
  • A tuition grant of €9,500 per year for the three years of the undergraduate programme.
  • A tuition grant of €6,500 per year for the three years of the undergraduate programme.
  • A tuition grant of €3,900 per year for the three years of the undergraduate programme. 

For master’s students:

The Émile Boutmy scholarship is awarded to Master’s students arriving at Sciences Po for their first year of study.

  • Tuition grant of €13,100 (amount granted in 2023, the 2024 amount is yet to be confirmed) per year, including tuition fees for the two years.

The amount of scholarship is determined at the time of admission. It may be recalculated on a yearly basis, in accordance with tuition fee increases, when applicable.  

If you do not validate your academic year, your scholarship will be lost.

If you have been granted a scholarship and you decide to defer your admission, your scholarship will be lost.

Emile Boutmy Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be:

  • From a non-European Union state (does not file taxes within the European Union).
  • Must admitted to the Undergraduate or Master’s programme.
  • Candidates from Quebec for undergraduate degree are also eligible

Students who are not eligible are:

  • Candidates with dual citizenship (including an EU citizenship)
  • Swiss and Norwegian applicants, since they may be entitled to CROUS scholarships
  • Candidates from Quebec for master’s degree
  • Candidates for the Joint Master in Journalism and International Affairs
  • Master’s level dual-degree candidates, unless you are applying for one of the following programmes:
    • the dual degree in Journalism Sciences Po/Columbia University
    • the dual degree Sciences Po/Fudan University with the concentration Europe-Asia in Global Affairs (only applicants with Chinese nationality)
    • the dual degree Sciences Po/Peking University (only applicants with Chinese nationality)
  • D. programme students (thesis)
  • Candidates for the 1 year Master’s programmes
  • Bachelor dual degree candidates (unless as part of a specific agreement)
  • Exchange students
  • Candidates applying via the French graduate admission procedure

How to apply for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship?

This scholarship is not automatically awarded, to apply candidates must follow the instructions below.

UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGE, FIRST TIME APPLICANTS:

APPLICANTS FROM FOREIGN SECONDARY SCHOOLS:

  • Applicants must indicate that they are applying to the Émile Boutmy scholarship in the “Financial information” section of their Sciences Po application.

APPLICANTS FROM FRENCH SECONDARY SCHOOLS:

Applicants might also ask to provide proof of income and documents explaining their family situation from both types of applicants. (e.g. income tax return for both parents, payslips, unemployment benefits, documents related to alimony, child support or retirement pensions…)

MASTER’S LEVEL, FIRST TIME APPLICANTS:

Candidates must mention that they are applying to the Émile Boutmy scholarship in the “Financial information” section of their Sciences Po application. Proof of income and documents explaining their family situation might also asked.

CANDIDATES CURRENTLY IN DEFERRAL (UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGE AND MASTERS LEVEL);

Students can apply if they are not in mention situation.

  • they did not apply to this scholarship in their application form
  • they had applied and obtained this scholarship last year but lost it due to the deferral
