Entrance Bursary Program:

It is a need-based financial aid program committed to supporting qualified undergraduate students who need financial assistance. The program’s goal is to make the University more accessible to those who face financial challenges to pay their semester fees.

Entrance bursaries range in value and award amounts are determined by:

  • the level of need demonstrated by the student and their family.
  • the tuition fee rate charged based on the program of study and student residency

There are a limited number of entrance bursary scholarships which are renewable and tenable until completion of an undergraduate degree (up to a maximum of four years). Students will automatically be considered for this type of entrance award when they submit the Entrance Bursary application on Minerva (no separate application is required).

Centrally-administered entrance scholarships:

There are two types of centrally-administered entrance scholarships:

One-year entrance Scholarships:

These are merit-based entrance scholarships to first-time university students entering a full-time undergraduate degree program. One-year Scholarships, valued at $3,000 (non-renewable).

Major entrance scholarships:

Major entrance scholarships are determined by selection committees and awarded based on academic achievement and outstanding leadership activities in school or community. Major Scholarships, valued between $3,000 and $12,000 (renewable annually up to 3 or 4 years provided criteria for renewal are met),

McGill University Scholarships Deadline:

Applicants from schools outside of Canada.

  • Admission deadline: January 15

Eligibility Criteria for McGill University Scholarships 2024-2025:

To be considered for these entrance scholarships, applicants must:

  • enroll in a full-time degree program at the University
  • demonstrate financial need for the Entrance Bursary Program, including the intention to apply for government student aid and/or Indigenous Band Support Funding or
  • for merit-based Centrally-administered entrance scholarship applicants must match the criteria

How to Apply for McGill University Scholarships?

Steps to apply for the Entrance Bursary Program:

  • The application becomes available on Minerva
  • Select the Financial Aid/Awards tab > Financial Aid Menu >
  •  Apply to the Entrance
  • International students must submit a CSS Financial Aid Profile Bursary Program

Steps to apply for the One-year entrance Scholarships:

  • Students entering a full-time undergraduate degree program are automatically considered for this scholarship if they meet the minimum academic requirements.
  • No separate scholarship application is required.

Please note: You are not guaranteed a scholarship even if you meet the standards

Steps to apply for the Major entrance scholarships:

  • After you submit your application for admission to McGill, you will receive an email acknowledging your application.
    This email will provide you with your:
    • McGill ID number
    • PIN used to log on to Minerva
  • Log in to Minerva and go to Applicant 
  • Apply for a Major Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship
  • If you applied only to Law, you won’t receive a PIN to log on to Minerva Contact the Law admissions office
  • For applicants from high schools outside Canada and the U.S.A upload all your transcripts to Minerva.
  • For US high school applicants self-report your grades in Minerva.
  • Your referees or school administrator must email your reference letters (and statements of rank, only if available) to scholarships@mcgill.ca
  • These documents must be
    • typed on official letterhead stationery,
    • duly signed, and converted to PDF
  • Students who apply for, but do not receive, a major scholarship will automatically be considered for a one-year scholarship. No additional application is required.
